Alert: Emergency Post!!

Ok, I just saw something that I couldn't stand to keep to myself. I was watching...BET...yes, I know and 106th and Park was on...yes, I know. It happened to be on the #1 video, which was Mario ft. Sean Garett and Gucci Mane "Break Up". It happens to be one of my current summer jams. This was the first time I saw the video for it. Now, I'm not usually one to judge. Everyone is a unique individual with their own set of traits. I'm not perfect, and neither is anyone else. However, if that video wasn't a modern day "Goldilocks and the Three Bears"...the poor girl was being chased by 3 trolls! You would want to break up to, and run!

Now, I've never personally found Sean Garett or Gucci to be attractive anyway, but apparantly I've never seen them close-up. When Gucci popped on the screen, the first thing I said was "EEWW! Thats his face?!" His lips are too big and black to skip out on chapstick. And the nasty gold grill? Uh uh boo boo. He looks just how he sounds. And Mr. Garett? His face is what I remembered, but he's a big boy (like muscley big)! I must have missed that before. Homeboy is massive! That, plus that face is the complete opposite of his voice. It's like if Mike Tyson could sing like Ne-Yo. As for Mario...I'm just disappointed. He has some exaggerated features (like those Black Hole nostrils of his), but I've always found him to be decent and kinda cute. So why, with that lumpy peanut head, would he think it was a good idea to get a baldie? He just got rid of the braids to get his grown-man on, now he's getting his old man on...smh. Despite the carnival show, I really like the video. I wish I was in it dancing with Baby Bear.

Thanks for bursting my bubble...

Hello all. Ok, so you know by now how simple my mind can be, and how easy it is for me to be confused, enlightened, than disturbed..and yes, in that order. Today's bubble burster is Kid Cudi's "Make Her Say". Now, I have heard this song a while ago, and I loved it. It was fresh, used a sample of Lady Gaga's "Pokerface" (another bubble burster) very well and very different than usual. I almost thought it was a remix. It features Common and Kanye, which makes it even hotter. I loves me some Common. I never thought twice about anything. However, after a couple months, I discovered it wasn't a remix, it was all Cudi's. And he was just as nasty as Gaga. His song is called "Make Her Say (Poke Her Face)". Yea..."Cudi: I make her say Gaga:OH, OH, OH, OH Cudi: When I... Gaga: Po-po-po-poke her face (poker face), po-po-poke her face". Geez man... They're lucky the video is cool. I just saw this last week. Me likey. It's rather upscale for a newly popular artist like Kid Cudi, especially being his second video. Here it is:

My Apologies!!

This is just a formal apology for being a slacker. I am proud to say that after almost a year of life-wasteocity, I am finally busy!! Yes, I am so busy, I rarely have extra time to myself. However, that has resulted in the neglect of my beloved blog. And for that, I am sorry. No longer will I go a month without posting at least a stupid comment I've heard or my new favorite song. I will fail you, my audience, no more. I'm also sorry because I make all these bold promises for future posts, and I don't deliver. See, what had happened was...when I think ideas sound better than they really are, or I wait too long to post, I just cut them out, so that is why. (ie. MJ everyday, and BET awards pt. 2) That is all.

BET...why? and other award show highlights

Hey all!! I realize I've been slipping in regards to my MJ posts...and I'm sure nobody is upset, lol. I've been busy lately, and doing a lot of running around, but Sunday night, I got a treat...but it felt more like a trick. Now, anybody who knows me...or anyone who watches t.v., understands how I feel about BET. For all who don't know, BET stands for "Black Entertainment Television". I personally feel it is a hot mess. They try, but they just don't get it. If you don't understand, watch an hour, at the most, of it. Between two shows and some commercials, you'll see where I'm coming from. Now, BET hosts an annual awards show. It varies in class and effort from year to year. This year, I repeat, was a hot mess. Now, due to various circumstances, I missed some better parts of the show, but from what I've heard, I didn't miss much.

I understand that, due to the death of an icon, the Gloved One himself, MJ, they felt compelled to throw together (yes, throw) a tribute. I have this belief, that if everyone realized their full potential they could experience true greatness. Now, if only BET realized even a sliver of its potential, perhaps they would have considered waiting and planned an elegant respectable tribute to the King of Pop. Instead, they said "Oh snap, Mike is gone...we gotta whip summin up real quick fo people think we don't care". Hence the hot mess tribute songs from non-singing and non-dancing artists in memory of one of the best singer/dancers of all time. SMH BE-FRIGGIN-T!!! However, the tribute wasn't even the best of the catastrophe that was the BET Awards. Just a warning, this post is very picture heavy, but I had to let you know how I felt about the things I experienced Sunday night, lol.

(I was gonna separate it into the Good, the Bad, and the What?...Maybe next time. There's just too much tomfoolery to organize).

Becuz I'm a MJ fan, I had to start off with Mz Jackson. This moment made me want to cry. Despite the overwhelming sadness in her eyes, Janet was beautiful and sincere. And you know I wants that weave!!
Now on to Joe Jackson...he makes my skin crawl. When I saw him in the audience, I didn't even feel like he was there to show respect, but to promote himself. Even Janet didn't sit by him. Ughh...Now, on to Performers:
Mary Mary are my girls. I like the black/white contrast, although I am not fond of the black...it looks like she thought it was MJ's funeral, not tribute. Their performance was nice, and they sung my jam "God in Me". BET coulda turned the mics up tho...just sayin...
I missed his performance...not really mad at that...but he did do "Swag On", which I do like, so kudos Souljah Boy. And, he actually looks decent...minus the ri-freakin-dicu-fool chain...I hate excess blingage. But I like the MJ inspired red leather and fro'ed out , MJ t-shirt. Young, but cool.
Kay, this is a Ciara double feature...CC isn't known for her fashion sense, but tonight she did it up in this form-fitting leather strapless dress (Rusching accentuates small frames, good pick boo!) and nude platform peep-toe heels. I was kinda hurt that her non-singing self sang "Heal the World"...thats my girl but...ya'll know she can't sing, she harmonically whispers...like Janet. I like her MJ military jacket and the band-aids tho.
LOL...HAHAH...LMBO...sorry, but, speaking of non-singing singers...oh Keyshia..you so purrty...and thats about it. I do loves me some Keyshia Cole, I do, but...maybe she shouldn't do a LIVE duet with Monica. It always sucks to be outsung on your own song. And I especially loved how their stylists apparently didn't know they were performing together...smh. It was like "Angels and Demons", lol.
Um, so...Bel Biv Devoe look and sound exactly the same as they did when they were actually famous, which is a plus. They aged well. It's also a minus...they missed puberty, lol. And I'm mad errbody acts like "Poison" was their only song. They played it out...I don't even like it no more...so there...thanks guys.
I am mad that I missed LaToya tho. I didn't know she performed :(. I also didn't know she turned goth. I don't know how I feel about this get-up. Part of me likes it.. a lot. The other part doesn't know if it's appropriate for a red carpet...then that part remembers its for the BET Awards, and figures, she probably didn't know either and decided, "I'll just wear my Halloween costume...it was cute". You know what? I like it...and those silver/black platforms are fly.
So, I see Keith Sweat hop his also non-singing self on the stage. I laugh because I know what I'm about to hear, I laugh because I didn't know it was possible to be off-key when there is no key, and I bopped along to his whiny Keith Sweat voice while I made Mexican pizza...good times.
Ok, also mad that I missed Miss Keri Baby. Also my girl...however, she can sing. I was also mad that she shaved her poodle and wore it to the show as a hair piece. There's a time to be daring, like with that very unusual but creative dress, and a time to say No!...like with those Jheri curl ringlets in her face.
Umm..they looked nice. Trey is too cute with his grown man cut. His crying self was getting to me, but I love him anyway. Tyrese can sing to me any day...fine self. Johnny Gill...um..he was unnecessary. And to this trio, I ask...why BET?...Who was like, "we have an OJays tribute medley...who should we....oh yes! Trey Songz, Tyrese and Johnny Gill!" Of all the random foolishness...and Johnny Gill's nasty facial expressions, lol.
Jay...he was aight...performed my jam...did his Hova thing...kinda mad they made it some dramatic "guess who, Beyonce? " thing, but whatever. I'm just glad my dude cut his nasty nappy edgeup cut. He was facilitating a shameful trend.And him...Maxwell...I missed you boo. I been rocking to "Pretty Wings" for months now. When you gonna lay the rest of that sweet melodic album on me. I need it...I need you...um, sorry. Had a moment..I'm back.

Ok..I'm tired...those were just performers. Tomorrow, I'll discuss the presenters, then the hit-or-miss fashion of the B-list star-studded red carpet.

MJ Tribute #2

Later on in August 1972, MJ came out with his second solo album, "Ben". The title track "Ben", is one of MJ's most well known songs. It was his first #1 hit and stayed at the top of the US pop charts for a weeks, #1 on the Australian charts for 8 weeks, and #7 on British charts. Everybody knows about his pet rat (yes, rat) Ben, who he loved so much. I love this song because he sings it with such heart for his age, but it makes me sad because it shows me how lonely he was. Anyways, despite the fact that it's a song about vermin, it's oh so sweet, and here it is.

MJ Tribute #1

This is one of my favorite songs. Many people don't know that MJ had a solo album way before his Jheri Curl "Rock With You" days. In 1972 he came out with his first solo album, "Be There" before his break from the Jackson 5. This is one of the singles off the album. It was #16 on the pop charts and #2 on the R&B charts in 1972. Do You, Boo!!

I'm gonna be honest with you all, I'm no fashionista. I don't claim to be. I don't keep up with the latest fashions in Paris...etc, etc. I am, however, in love with fashion. I am a very creative person and to me, fashion is a way to make your body a canvas. That is why I am highly opposed to following fads and trends. I don't think it's the best way to reflect who you are. Now, I'm not saying you can't pull elements you appreciate from current trends, I just think that fashion is about whats right for you. I've been told often that a certain outfit I wore was nice on me, but would never work on somebody else. Now, sometimes, that's a polite way to say "you look a hot mess", but when you do creative the right way, it can be a very true compliment. When you #1:wear what you like, #2: are willing to take chances, and #3: make choices that compliment your body and image, you may create a personal style that really may not work on anybody but you. Now let me explain:

#1: Wear what you like
-so often, people are slaves to pop culture and trends of today, and try to reflect what they see. The problem with that is, sometimes, these trends don't work for everyone. It's important to know what you like. That can include styles from any time period (that are flattering, for example, you may want to avoid Hammer pants). Try to remember things you've seen on people, or in magazines that you loved. Even try to recall things you've worn before that you really liked or were praised for. But what if you don't think the shirt in the movie will look good on you? That brings me to the next point...



#2: Be willing to take chances
-you never know what will work if you don't try it, so take the chance! I am someone who is willing to try something odd, if I can make it work. I have plenty of "ugly" items I love. It depends on what you do with it, and how you carry yourself when you wear it. Sometimes, I will go to the mall on an off-day and try on anything I think looks cool. Then, I take a picture in it with my phone. What I see in the mirror is how I think I look in it, and what I see in the picture is what others will see. Later on, when I'm home, I review them. The next time I have the money to shop, I know what to get. The beauty of window shopping and trying unfamiliar things on, is it helps you get over the fear of putting it on. If it happens to look good, get it! p.s- don't be scared of pattern, color, and different fit. You'd be surprised how comfortable you could be in something new.


#3: Make choices that compliment your body and image
-To me, this is the most important factor. Sometimes, the cutest outfits can be completely ruined by bad fit. Don't dress for a body you don't have, and respect your proportions. A basic rule is big baggy clothes don't flatter any shape, male or female, and tight clothes don't help anyone either. Also, make sure your clothes reflect who you are. If you're a vibrant happy energetic person, don't live in neutrals like black and browns, add some bright vibrant colors. If you're a mature businessman/woman, you may not want to live in dusty sneakers and juniors department clothes. If you're a sweet, classy, well-mannered young lady, you may want to skip the mini skirts and thigh boots. Ya get the idea?



Fashion is about being honest with yourself, true to yourself, and having fun. I will be going into depth on these points one by one later on, so stay tuned!
